A12.1 Preface: "Rules of the Road" for Using the UDS

Data obtained from the UDS will be subject to the same rules agreed on by the Science Working Team (SWT) for the Common Data File (CDF) in order to protect the proprietary data rights of the Principal Investigator (PI) and his team.

The main points to consider are:

A12.2 Introduction

A12.2.1 Scope of the User's Guide

The aim of this document is to provide a registered user of the UDS with sufficient information to access the data sets stored on-line at the UDS nodes and to define the guidelines for the use of these data.

A12.2.2 Document Structure

Following the opening section, defining the "Rules of the Road" for using the UDS, and a short introduction, this User's Guide details the location, format and content of each UDS data set.

Section A12.4 contains information concerning access control and UDS registration, which will be of interest to new users not having DECNET proxy access to the UDS data sets (as otherwise assumed in this document).

This User's Guide is primarily intended for experienced users of VMS VAX systems. However, a few more detailed instructions for accessing the on-line data sets for the less-experienced user are also provided in Section A12.5.
